More than 60 vehicles attended this year’s Buses Festival at its new venue, the East of England Showground in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

Such has been the success of the event that it will return to the same base next year. Vehicles at the show ranged from a prewar Dennis Lancet to 21-registered buses, and from petrol engines to zero-emission electrics.

The event was previously held at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, though it didn’t take place last year due to the pandemic. Vehicles from operators as well as private owners were present at the event, which included rides on the showground and to the nearby village of Elton.
Stagecoach East provided a shuttle service to Peterborough Railway Station.

Award winners for restored vehicles went to Dews, Somersham for 1973 Bedford VAL with Plaxton Panorama Elite III body YFX 360L (best coach), 1949 Eastern Counties Bristol K5G HPW 155 (best double-decker) and Keith Valla’s 1953 London Transport AEC Regal IV RF NLE 539 (best single-decker).

Chris Shaw’s magnificent new to Whippet Scania L94UB/Wright Solar took the visitor’s choice award.

Best modern single decker was Delaine’s 2021 ADL E200 MMC, registration AD21 DBL. Best modern coach was Sharpes of Nottingham’s 2019 Van Hool TDX21 Altano, registration TX69 SON and the award for best double decker went to Stagecoach London for its heritage-liveried 2014 ADL Enviro 400, SN64 OGU.
