First Bus and First Rail, part of transport operator FirstGroup, have pledged their support for the Tomorrow’s Engineers Code launched by EngineeringUK.
The Code is a commitment to work toward common goals to increase the diversity and number of young people taking up engineering careers. The Code acknowledges the need to ensure engineering is an accessible career so that the UK has a diverse and insightful workforce enabling it to thrive.

Begun in October 2020, the Tomorrow’s Engineers Code initiative is backed by a broad community of organisations including engineering firms, professional institutions and Government departments. Each of these institutions has committed to four pledges regarding funding, designing, delivering and learning from activities based in engineering to achieve the shared goals of the Code.

Commenting, FirstGroup Chief Executive Matthew Gregory said: “Our ambition is for FirstGroup to be the partner of choice for innovative and sustainable transport, and we are pleased to support and inspire Britain’s engineers of tomorrow. The changing nature of transport and mobility, particularly as we move to new technologies, requires us to adapt the way we operate our services and maintain our vehicles. To deliver that change for a cleaner and greener future, we will need a diverse workforce of engineers, and that’s why we are delighted to have signed the Tomorrow’s Engineers Code.”
