Mellor has delivered four new Tucana II low-floor buses to Bath and North East Somerset Council to supplement its fleet of 20 vehicles.
The council’s transport offering covers a variety of needs, including a dial-a-ride service that offers door-to-door transport for older and disabled passengers who are unable to access conventional public transport services. These four Tucanas will also serve on home to school contracts in the area.
A council spokesman for Environmental Services at Bath & NE Somerset said: “We needed a number of new vehicles for various council contracts. The Tucana II meets our customers needs and our track record with past vehicles from Mellor meant we had no hesitation when placing this order.”
National Sales Manager for Mellor, Stephen Haywood, said: “The Mellor Tucana II has proved excellent in terms of the design and layout as well as offering excellent performance and reliability.
“We have provided a number of Mellor vehicles to the council over the years including the Mercedes Vario and Sprinter and this time, the Tucana II met their specifications perfectly.
“We have a great working relationship with Stephen and Mellor, and when we have had the smallest issues with our vehicles, they ensure that they are rectified promptly getting us back on the road.”
Built on the Volkswagen T6 chassis, each Tucana II is configured to carry up to 14 seated passengers or three seats and four wheelchairs. In addition to a rapid sliding side door, there are two manual rear doors which provide access to a fold-out ramp. Phoenix Blenheim Shuffle seats with all age seatbelts and Webasto climate control are specified for passenger comfort and safety.
