Morebus and Southern Vectis routes listed as four of the top six most scenic routes in England

In the first survey of its kind, Bus Users UK asked passengers to vote for the most spectacular routes. Four of Go South Coast’s most popular services were named among England’s six most scenic bus routes.

The Go-Ahead Group-owned brands Morebus and Southern Vectis were placed second, third, fifth and sixth in England. The overall winner was the 840 Coastliner, operated by Transdev, which runs from Leeds and York to Whitby.

Go South Coast Head of Communications, Nikki Honer, commented: “Dorset and the Isle of Wight are incredibly beautiful parts of the country – and we are blessed with the wonderful coast and countryside our routes run through.

“We’ve always felt our buses here operate within some of the country’s most attractive surroundings – and it seems voters in the poll agree with us. There are of course other beautiful landscapes across the UK – but the Isle of Wight and Dorset are very special indeed. We’re proud to serve here.

“Those who travel on many of our Breezer services have the opportunity to do so on open-top buses during the warmer months of the year – making the journey even more memorable. The beautiful weather we’re currently enjoying enhances the experience still further.”

The four successful Go South Coast routes were:

  • The Purbeck Breezer route 50 from Bournemouth to Swanage. It journeys through the Sandbanks, on-board the Sandbanks ferry and through the beaches and countryside that Purbeck is famous for;
  • The Purbeck Breezer route 40, which travels through Dorset’s countryside from Swanage to Poole. Corfe Castle and the market town of Wareham can also be enjoyed along the way;
  • The Isle of Wight’s Needles Breezer, which includes a cliff-hugging climb from Alum Bay up to the Needles Battery. The service also links Yarmouth to Freshwater Bay, Dimbola Museum and Galleries, and Fort Victoria Country Park.; and
  • The Island Coaster, which travels from Yarmouth to Ryde and runs between April and September. Attractions on the route include the Needles Landmark Attraction, Blackgang Chine and Dinosaur Isle. Tennyson Down and Alum Bay are also along this route.
