It has been a busy few years for Go South West in Devon and Cornwall. Richard Sharman visits Clyst St Mary to find out more about Dartline, the latest addition to the group’s operations

Some people may think that Devon and Cornwall are sleepy counties where very little changes, but if you are a regular reader you will know that the last four to five years have seen a number of innovations and changes implemented. One thing that has certainly changed is big group activity in both counties, with Go-Ahead Group-owned Plymouth Citybus making major strides in expanding beyond its former municipal bus company operating area in the confines of Plymouth.

Owners look for growth

Go-Ahead has grown rapidly in the West Country. From its origins as Plymouth Citybus, the group expanded into East Cornwall in 2014, and again in 2020 through an eight-year contract to deliver rural bus routes from Land’s End to the Tamar for the county council, creating Go Cornwall Bus. The combined operation was given a new corporate identity as Go South West in August 2020. Following the acquisition of Dartline on 14 November 2022, Investors in People-accredited Go South West now comprises four customer facing brands operating 380 buses and coaches, and employing a workforce of 900 people.
