POLAND

Polish distributor of Ikarus buses Electrobus Europe and Szczecinek city council have signed a contract for the supply of electric buses for the Polish city. Managing Director of Electrobus Europe Zoltán Sipos signed the deal with Daniel Rak, mayor of the north-west Polish town, signed the contract for five Ikarus 120e buses, built in Hungary. Scheduled for delivery within 11 months, it represents the first Polish order for the reborn Ikarus, once a key export market and still regarded as a strategic target country by the Hungarian bus manufacturer.

The order will expand the city’s existing fleet of 10 electric buses. The new vehicles will be 12 metres long and fully low-floor, with a total capacity of 86 passengers, and will be delivered in a three-door version with 27 seats.

The vehicles will be equipped with a lithium-phosphate (LFP) battery pack with a total capacity of 314kWh, which Ikarus says will allow a range of up to 350km.

“This is a real milestone in the history of both Ikarus and Electrobus! I am proud that, after almost three decades, Ikarus buses will appear once again on Polish roads. I am particularly pleased that our cooperation can support the city in its exemplary efforts to promote green public transport,” said Zoltán. “Yesterday undoubtedly opened a new chapter in the life of Ikarus. This contract is the most positive feedback and message to the market that Ikarus is ready for international expansion again.”
