Global surveillance specialist Synectics, shared the latest developments in on-vehicle CCTV solutions at this year’s Euro Bus Expo, including IP networks, wireless communication and systems integration – trends that are shaping the future of on-vehicle CCTV.
In a first for the company, Synectics hosted four educational seminars on their stand. Understanding your obligations under the Data Protection Act proved to be an extremely popular topic for many of the brand’s visitors.
As the use of on-vehicle CCTV becomes increasingly common-place, many operators are not fully conversant with the latest regulations relating to management and storage of recorded data, including how to deal with ‘subject access requests’.
The seminar focused on how the latest technology can help operators meet their obligations under data protection legislation. In particular, the capability of Synectics’ evolved software platform, Synergy 3, to capture and record the full history of recorded data, which is important when proving its authenticity. For example, when used for evidential purposes.
Awareness of IP (Internet Protocol) technology and its potential benefits is growing in the bus and coach sector, with many of Synectics’ customers specifying higher quality image IP-based HD cameras for their vehicles.
An IP camera captures HD quality footage, covering larger areas in a higher resolution than its predecessor, the analogue camera. This improved clarity of image has enabled operators to extract a larger amount of crucial information from the footage – and in a shorter time at that.

Operators can now take advantage of wireless technology to automate downloads, without the need for a physical visit to the vehicle; driving both efficiency and cost management.
