Irizar electric buses have travelled more than 750,000km and made 60,000 ultra-fast charges in the Swiss city of Schaffhausen, the manufacturer reports. The milestone marked the end of the commissioning of the project, where Irizar has supplied a complete turnkey solution to operator VBSH (Verkehrsbetriebe Shaffhausen).

Iñigo Etxeberria, Export Commercial Director of Irizar e-mobility, said during an event to mark the occasion: “We would like to thank VBSH and the city of Schaffhausen for the trust they have placed in us. We are very proud to be able to bring our turnkey electromobility solutions to this city. The key for the success of this project has undoubtedly been the close cooperation between VBSH, Irizar Group and all the stake holders involved.”

Irizar said the project is a showcase not only in Switzerland but in Europe: “This is the first opportunity charging electric bus system fully zero-emission on its entire value chain, the Spanish manufacturer explained, “as the twelve 600kW ultra-fast charging stations draw the energy to charge the vehicles from the Rhein river hydroelectric plant, run by local company SH Power.”

The project includes 15 Irizar ie tram zero-emission electric buses, comprising eight 12m and seven 18m articulated vehicles, 13 600kW ultra-fast chargers and 16 charging stations in depots. The chargers have been developed and manufactured by Jema, which is part of the Irizar Group.

Irizar’s fully zero-emission solution has seen its buses achieve 750,000km in service using green electricity. IRIZAR
