NETHERLANDS
The public transport authority in the Dutch province of Utrecht awarded Keolis a 10-year contract for the operation and maintenance of its Utrecht bus network in June. The contract, worth a total of €750 million, includes the deployment of more than 250 electric buses and will start in December 2025.
Present in the Netherlands since 1999, Keolis has been operating in the Utrecht region since 2016, and with the renewed contract is proposing to extend timetables and offer more services as well as setting targets for the accessibility of public transport in Utrecht. The company plans to introduce a large fleet of over 250 electric buses on the network, while recharging facilities will be installed in the network’s five depots.
“The renewal of this contract for a further 10 years confirms our customer’s confidence in Keolis. In recent years, we have been able to deliver a quality transport service, and even increase passenger satisfaction levels, despite the driver shortage. Continuing to support Province of Utrecht in its energy transition ambitions by gradually deploying a fleet of 250 electric buses is a source of immense pride for our teams in the Netherlands. Their commitment to the Syntus Utrecht network is admirable, and I’m convinced that they were instrumental in securing the new contract,” said Keolis CEO Jan Kilström.
