HONG KONG
An order for 46 more double-deckers has taken the total number of Volvo B8Ls delivered to Hong Kong operators to over 500. Volvo Buses said the order was testament to its strong market presence in the city and its close partnership with KMB (The Kowloon Motor Bus Company). It follows the delivery of 40 Volvo B8Ls in late 2020. The latest batch of buses is due for delivery in the second quarter of 2022.
Volvo Buses has had a presence in Hong Kong that has steadily expanded since the early 1980s, and has maintained a relationship with KMB, one of the world’s largest operators of double decker buses, carrying around one billion commuters annually in Hong Kong.
Emmanuel Jupet, Director, Volvo Buses APAC North, commented: “We are very honoured that KMB continues to place its confidence in Volvo buses and are proud to be associated with a company that moves public transport forward in Hong Kong.”
The new buses will be 12.8 metres long, fitted with solar panels and offer a passenger capacity of up to 141, plus feature Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Downhill Road Speed Limit (DRSL) and three-point safety seat belts.
