Classic vehicles from the famous British marque gathered in Buckinghamshire for a Leyland Society event in July, reports Nick Larkin
Leyland coaches, buses and lorries dating from 1910 to 1989 lined up for a special event recently. The Leyland Gathering took place at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre, Quainton. Organised by the Leyland Society on 2 July the event included steam train rides, the sound effects being even greater when combined with the melodious sound of pre-war petrol-engined vehicles among others.
Buses and coaches included Mike Sutcliffe’s new to Todmorden 1921 Leyland G2, registration C 2367, and Des Maybury’s 1936 Park Royal-bodied new to London Transport Leyland SKPZ2 Cub CLX 548, looking resplendent in its primrose and blue livery for the inter-station service the vehicle operated on when new.
