Andrew Thompson takes a brief look at some of the exhibits at the Czechbus trade show in Prague, held in late November
November is a busy time in the international exhibition schedule, and hot off the heels of Euro Bus Expo in Birmingham, the 13th edition of the Central European trade show Czechbus took place in Prague from 19 to 21 November. This event is used by manufacturers and suppliers with a strong regional market share to showcase their latest innovations, with such bus builders as Iveco, SOR, MAN, Scania and Mercedes-Benz taking centre stage this year.
Škoda highlight
In total, 80 exhibitors showcased 49 vehicles. A highlight was the presentation of one the new Škoda type 32Tr trolleybuses for the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. A total of 91 of these 12 metre long trolleys were ordered in 2023 with a price tag of €52 million.
The first batch was delivered to Vilnius in summer 2024, so the model on show in Prague was from the ongoing production run, which is due to be completed in 2025.
The Škoda 32Tr trolleys have bodywork supplied by Czech manufacturer SOR and are very similar to SOR’s other showcase at the exhibition, a type NS 12 e-bus for the Moravian public transport operator BORS. Slightly shorter and featuring different body styling was the SOR type ICN 9.5 midi model for Brno, the second-largest Czech city in the south-east of the country. SOR won a contract for the delivery of 10 such fuel-efficient, diesel-powered, air-conditioned midis in summer 2024, with an option for 10 more.
