Lodge Coaches of High Easter has acquired a rare Bedford. The MLC bus, registration FJT 86, was new to Dorset County Council Education Committee in 1952 before spending many years with Bill Whittaker of Whittaker’s Coaches of West Bromwich.

However, Lodge’s bought the vehicle from the executors of Keith Allis-Barber following his death last year. “We were very keen to see this vehicle saved after it was offered to us,” said Lodge’s Director Chris Lodge. “At the moment we are working on restoring and recommissioning, before a decision is taken as to whether we should keep the vehicle or pass it on.”

Lodge’s already has a dozen-strong heritage fleet, housed in its ‘Toy Box’ museum and available for private hire, film roles, and other events. “Booking for heritage vehicles are picking up we’re pleased to say, and we are getting a lot of interest,” added Chris.

A bus rally is set to take place at Lodge’s Essex premises on 21 August with two car shows taking place, a meet and an autojumble on 3 April and another event on 4 June.
