Michael regularly helps elderly passengers onto the bus. AILIE MCINTOSH

Lothian Buses driver Michael Richie attracted praise online last week from one of his passengers on route 30, Ailie Mcintosh.

Ailie took to Facebook to recognise Michael’s actions, writing: “Shout out to the bus driver driving the 30 (I got on at 1200hrs in Musselburgh) who went well out of his job description, buying a passenger with special needs sweets, talking and trying to calm them down on his break, getting off the bus at stops and helping the elderly onto the bus and carrying their shopping for them to their seats, asking people on the bus if they are too cold and wanting the heating put on… anything you could do to help anybody, you did without hesitation. Honestly Lothian Buses need more people like you – you deserve a medal!”
