Malcolm Pelling with one of his favourite Southdown Leyland PD3/4 ‘Queen Marys.’ LORRAINE CONSOLACION-PELLING

Former Southdown bus driver and local manager Malcolm Pelling has passed away at the age of 57. Malcolm became Area Manager at Eastbourne before becoming a senior revenue protection officer with Thameslink, where he met his wife, Lorraine.

Malcolm became well known for his love of Southdown’s legendary Leyland PD3/4 ‘Queen Mary’ double-deckers, and supported many preservation projects. He was also renowned for an almost uncanny knack of rooting out interesting preservation projects, and supporting their rescue however he could.

Malcolm, who died on 23 October, had fought various health problems in his latter years. His funeral will take place on Wednesday 10 November at St Michael’s RC Church, Worthing, at 1100hrs, when it’s hoped to have a ‘Queen Mary’ in attendance.
