Megabus has announced it is withdrawing its Cardiff to Glasgow megabusGold sleepercoach overnight route, which was launched in 2014.
The S35 eight-hour service is scheduled to leave Cardiff Kingsway stop GQ at 2345hrs and arrive at Glasgow’s Buchanan Bus Station at 0725hrs, with a single stop in Birmingham. Travelling from Glasgow, it leaves at 2215hrs and arrives in Cardiff at 0545hrs. The service uses Van Hool Astromega coaches, which have 53 leather seats that convert into 42 lie-flat beds.
The service has not met the company’s demand expectations, though since the announcement a petition to save the service has been launched, attracting around 250 signatures.
A spokesman for the Stagecoach-owned company said: “Megabus.com has worked hard and made considerable investment to make the S35 Cardiff Glasgow Sleeper Service economically viable and unfortunately has not been able to do so.
“It is therefore with regret megabus.com will be withdrawing this service from March 1, 2015.
“Megabus.com would like to thank all customers and staff who have supported this service.”
