ITALY
Arriva Italia has introduced 20 new electric minibuses to its fleet to transport pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, in partnership with the Municipality of Rome. Each vehicle has equipment on board including an automatic hydraulic lift for wheelchairs, a defibrillator and a telemedicine system that allows on-the-spot diagnosis by capturing vital data for a central station, manned by specialist physicians, to assess severity in the event of sudden illness. The service uses 254 drivers to operate 567 routes around Rome, with over 1,000 passengers expected to use it every day.
