More details have been confirmed about the ongoing Newbury Bus Station work. As reported last week (CBW1340), no excursion coach boarding, alighting or layover facilities will be available at the Wharf during the construction of the new premises.

Peter Walker, Transport Services Manager at West Berkshire Council, has confirmed to CBW that limited alternative facilities for excursion coaches are available at the existing bus station on Market Street – postcode RG14 5DP.

He said: “May I encourage excursion coach operators who regularly use Newbury to contact the council’s Transport Services Team well in advance on 01635 503248, or by emailing [email protected].

“Excursion coaches can use either Bay B or Bay H at the station to briefly board and alight passengers, and layover spaces 6, 7 and 8 at the rear of the site for drivers breaks of 45 minutes.

“Beyond the 45-minute period, coaches should layover at Newbury Rugby Club.”

As with the previous Wharf facilities, operators should expect charges for using the sites.

Once construction of the Wharf is complete, the facility will offer layover facilities for a limited number of excursion coaches, as well as boarding and alighting provision.
