246 was the only Leyland PD1 to run for SELNEC PTE – and even then it was a relic at 22 years old, having entered service in 1947. It was one of the first buses to enter preservation from the North West and was often seen at rallies for many years, but fell on hard times and a period of outdoor storage didn’t do its teak body frame any favours. 246 was in poor condition when the Museum of Transport bought it, but bodywork and electrical overhaul work is now taking place before a repaint into the town’s crimson and white livery with ornate lining out.
