Bus Users UK says that the Government’s new Disability Strategy, which is designed to improve access to housing, commuting and job opportunities for the millions of people in the UK with disabilities, is a step in the right direction for public transport users.

The Strategy sets out 100 immediate commitments from Government, supported by £1.6billion in funding to ‘build a better and fairer life for all disabled people living in the UK.’ Responding to the Strategy, Claire Walters, Chief Executive of Bus Users UK said: “This Strategy is a step in the right direction when it comes to addressing the huge inequality faced by people with disabilities in accessing life’s opportunities. For there to be genuine levelling up, it is vital that central and local governments take a joined-up, cross-departmental approach to accessibility. Education, housing and employment do not exist in isolation and without fully accessible and sustainable transport options, people with disabilities will continue to be disadvantaged.”
