A new Morecambe promenade coach park is part of plans approved by Lancaster City Council cabinet.

Car park number 1 on the central seafront next to the Eric Morecambe statue will be changed to create a pick-up and drop-off point for coaches and buses.

Five car parking spaces will be converted to make way for the coach point, which could double as a bus stop.

The other car park near Eric, number 2, will also be changed to create a pedestrian crossing from the central seafront to the town centre at Euston Road. This will replace the current crossing nearby and another crossing further up the promenade could be removed to make way for the new one.

The plans are part of a wide-spread plan for Morecambe’s future, called the Morecambe Area Action Plan (MAAP).

The work will commence in 2015/16 with a total cost of £90,000, with the coach park facilities planned to be in place for the 2015 season.
