GERMANY & ITALY
Daimler-owned Setra has recently delivered two significant orders for operators in Italy and Germany. The southern Italian bus company MarinoBus and Bonn-based UBS Univers Busservice GmbH are both adding a number of new Setra double-deckers to their fleets. The interiors of MarinoBus’ 20 new Setra double-deck coaches are fitted with LED lighting and offer different equipment variants on the lower deck, to allow flexibility for touring or regular service work. Among other things, the vehicles are equipped with Side Guard Assist and Attention Assist technology; the former detects cyclists and pedestrians alongside the vehicle when turning, and the latter detects the onset of driver fatigue.
The 12.8-litre OM471 engine has an output of 375kW (510hp) and is coupled to a GO 250–8 MPS eight-speed automated manual transmission. The buses, which wear the Marinobus red woodpecker logo, each have 68 seats.
The family-owned business was established by Michele Marino in 1957 and is now managed by Gerardo Marino. In 2015 the company took delivery of the 2,500th double-decker bus made by Setra.
Meanwhile, two new Setra double-deckers have been UBS, Univers Busservice GmbH, which is strengthening its links with the Setra brand, a marque it has been buying for over 70 years. The Bonn-based company has added two new 68-seat S 531 DTs to its fleet. The glass-roofed three-axle vehicles also have a galley with a coffee machine and refrigerator on board. On the lower deck, passengers can sit around two club tables, while entertainment and information about the journey can be viewed on a total of five LCD video monitors.
The two S 531 DTs also have the OM471 six-cylinder engine and GO 250–8 MPS automated manual transmission. In addition to the two double-deckers, the company, which has been buying Setras since 1952, has acquired an S 516 HDH from Setra’s new generation TopClass range.
