Newport Transport, operator of the Swansea to London FlixBus route since August last year, says it is delighted to announce an order for seven Yutong GT12 coaches for its expanding Flixbus express services. The operator said the decision to acquire the new coaches comes from the success of its collaboration with FlixBus, having expanded its involvement in the coach business launching Flixbus’ first dedicated airport routes in the UK. Building on the success of the past six months, the partners revealed in January that they will increase frequencies on London services and introduce a new Swansea to Birmingham route for this summer.
Operations Director at Newport Transport Morgan Stevens explained: “Following a rigorous tender process, we are delighted to once again collaborate with Yutong and Pelican Engineering on this significant investment to support the expansion of our Flixbus network. Scoring highly on both value and availability, we are very confident that the reliability and the after-sales support of Yutong’s coach products will match the experiences of our local bus fleet.”
Head of Yutong UK for Pelican Engineering Ian Downie expressed his delight over the partnership between Newport Transport and Yutong. “Our partnership with Newport Transport started five years ago with the purchase of the first of several zero tailpipe emission buses. Since that order, Newport Transport has completed a further four tranches of vehicles. We were delighted that this successful partnership has now moved on to clean Euro VI diesel coaches. The award-winning Pelican dealership will fully support the vehicles,” he said.
