Hayley Russell, Team Lead of Operations at FlixBus UK, discusses the importance of inclusion for women in the coach industry, particularly drivers. Hayley was named Young Bus Manager of the Year at the UK Bus Awards, and has recently been nominated for MOVE’s 2023 Women in Mobility Champion Award, for which voting went live on International Women’s Day on 8 March
It’s no secret that the driver shortage is a key challenge for our industry. The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has been tackling the issue head-on, with its ‘Thank You Driver’ and ‘Cheers Drive’ campaigns, and we’re grateful to see the work being done on national and regional levels to encourage more people into bus and coach roles. At FlixBus, we firmly believe drivers are the backbone of our business. My operational team regularly engages with our drivers to ensure they know we appreciate their hard work and commitment, 365 days a year. They are of course crucial to our success in the market.
