American coach and bus manufacturer Prevost, a Volvo Group subsidiary, has announced the largest contract in its history thanks to a major order from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) of New York State. The MTA has awarded Prevost a contract to manufacture up to 381 coaches, including a firm order for 250 to be delivered between 2025 and 2026, as well as options to purchase an additional 131.
Prevost says the contract will enable it to retain and hire around a hundred new employees in Sainte-Claire, in the Bellechasse region of Canada, as the production rate will increase in the coming years, which will also benefit the company’s many suppliers in Quebec.
“This historic contract from North America’s largest public transportation agency is excellent news for Prevost. It will help strengthen our leadership position in the North American motorcoach market, while creating quality jobs in our region,” said François Tremblay, Prevost’s President. “I would like to thank MTA for its renewed confidence in Prevost. We are proud to count them among our customers.”
“We are sincerely proud and grateful for the MTA’s continued confidence in our team by placing the largest contract in Prevost’s history. The strong commitment to serve our customers by focusing on quality, reliability and support will continue and also benefit the citizens of New York,” added Anna Westerberg, President of Volvo Buses.
“In addition to generating significant economic spin-offs, the trust placed in us illustrates Prevost’s attractiveness. This news comes on the eve of the launch of our 100th anniversary activities, which will last throughout 2024,” concluded President of Prevost François Tremblay.
