It my sad duty to record the passing of Mr John Cresswell – Big John to his colleagues and loyal customers – on May 30, 2018, aged 77 years.

Born during the Battle of Britain in September 1940, John was the 6th generation Cresswell to become a coachman (coach driver).

Taking his PSV tests in 1961 with Jack Mulley of Ixworth, he passed his coach test in the morning and his all-types test later on the same day due to a driver failing to turn up!

He was a colourful character who always had a story to tell, working for Combs Coaches, Stowmarket and Squirrells Coaches, Hitcham for many years.

In 1990 he set up John’s Tours with his son Kevin, retiring in 2013. He was a keen narrow gauge railway modeller of late, working on it at all times of the day.

John is survived by his wife Jill and four children.

The funeral takes place at 1400hrs at St Mary’s Church, Combs, with the celebration of his life to be held at The Cedars Hotel, Stowmarket from 1530hrs.
