Transport planning optimisation software specialist Optibus has announced its expansion into real-time data with the acquisition of Datik, a transport technology company based in the Basque region of Spain. The move will see Datik collaborate with Optibus’ R&D and product teams on the development and launch of B2B and B2G SaaS products in the fields of passenger information, control and monitoring, safety, and operations.

Optibus says the acquisition reinforces its commitment to innovating public transport through technological research, partnerships, and acquisitions and advances its mission to offer the industry’s ultimate all-in-one digital operating system.

Headquartered in San Sebastian, Spain, Datik has worked with more than one hundred transport companies, primarily in Europe and Mexico, to ensure driver and passenger safety and to help operators to meet service agreements with public authorities and agencies.

By integrating Datik’s data sets into Optibus’ software platform as a sophisticated real-time intelligence layer, Optibus says it can enhance the capability of its artificial intelligence to predict operational and service outcomes for operators and agencies. “Optibus is committed to supporting the public transportation market with the most sophisticated tools and expertise available. With this acquisition, operators and agencies will have better access to advanced reactionary capabilities, enabling them to plan better services for passengers and improve the driver work experience,” said Optibus CEO and co-founder Amos Haggiag.

“We are thrilled to join forces with Optibus in a move that is strategic for our growth and that will produce exciting product synergies around data, optimisation, and cloud computing. Our combined expertise will break new ground on real-time insights, reinvent ‘operatorial agility’, and enhance the driver and passenger experience. Together with Optibus, we look forward to pushing the envelope on transportation technology while maintaining our commitment to the local economy and staying true to the values that have defined Datik,” added General Manager of Datik Inigo Odriozola.
