Oxford Bus Company has forged a partnership with RebelRoam, an on-board WiFi traffic optimisation service provider, to improve its WiFi delivery service.
Through this partnership, passengers taking their journeys with Oxford Bus Company, Thames Travel, Carousel Buses and the X90, will be able to stream video content easily, with the opportunity to access Youtube, commonly blocked by most public transport WiFi providers.
An increase in online video content has added a significant increase in pressure to transportation provider’s budgets.
However, the collaboration has managed to reduce data consumption by 25% and reduce Oxford Bus Company costs for providing on-board WiFi, while improving the customer experience.
Phil Southall, Oxford Bus Company Managing Director said: “Passengers expect a high-quality WiFi experience on our buses and coaches.
By partnering with RebelRoam we have been able to deliver an even better WiFi experience to passengers. The new system means passengers can now stream video content without congesting the network and increasing data consumption.”
Henri Ploom, CEO of RebelRoam, said: “We are focused on helping transport operators provide good quality WiFi to their passengers by offering an easy solution that is also within their budget realities.
With data consumption growing at 25% annually and the popularity of video content, network optimisation is not an option anymore, it’s a must.”
