Wrightbus has hosted a visit by Chris Grayling MP, Secretary of State for Transport. The Transport Secretary was accompanied by Member of Parliament for North Antrim, Ian Paisley.
The Transport Secretary was welcomed by Chairman and CEO Mark Nodder OBE, and briefed by Group Engineering Director Brian Maybin on new developments to combat vehicle emissions.
The Transport Secretary was then given a tour of Wrightbus manufacturing facilities by Dr Lorraine Rock, Managing Director, where he saw firsthand the production of new buses for Wrightbus customers in the UK as well as the Republic of Ireland.
Following the factory tour, Transport Secretary Grayling met Wrightbus founder Dr William Wright CBE, who then explained the technology behind the world’s first hydrogen-powered double-decker, designed and manufactured by Wrightbus.
Wrights Group Chairman and CEO, Mark Nodder said: “It was a great privilege to show the Secretary of State for Transport the latest zero-emission bus technology produced by Wrightbus.
“This is a glimpse of the future where buses will have a pivotal role to play in reducing harmful emissions and improving air quality. Further, at a time when manufacturing in Northern Ireland has come under significant pressure, it is good to have the support and encouragement of the Transport Secretary for the continued investment and employment sustained by Wrightbus in the local community.”
