Transport technology provider Zeelo says that through its network of UK operator partners it helped to direct £40 million into local coach and bus businesses in 2024, highlighting its commitment to nurturing long-term partnerships that enable operators to scale their fleets, boost employment, and meet the rising demand for dependable shared transport services.
“We wouldn’t be where we are without our operator partners,” said David Biszby, Director of UK Operations at Zeelo. “By building strong, reliable relationships and offering consistent, growth-focused contracts, we create long-term value that drives success on both sides.”
With over 15 million journeys completed to date, Zeelo’s says its asset-light approach, enhanced by the acquisition of Kura, is now the largest virtual bus operation in the UK, and provides operators with the tools and stability to overcome chronic funding challenges. The partnership model is becoming essential for an industry that plays a critical role in school transport, employee commutes, and community connectivity, the company believes. “Our relationship with Zeelo has grown far beyond that of a traditional supplier and client. From the very beginning, their team has worked collaboratively with us to understand how we can best support each other. It’s a genuine partnership; built on trust, transparency, and shared goals, that continues to deliver value for both sides. I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together in the months and years ahead”, said Kieran Swindells, Managing Director at Swans Travel.
Zeelo says that industry insights show that while the global bus and coach market was valued at $72.11 billion in 2022, and is projected to grow substantially by 2030, the UK coach sector continues to face significant funding shortfalls and limited policy support. “With current public transport funding set to expire in April 2025, operators are left without the clarity needed for long-term planning. Meanwhile, coach fleets remain largely unsupported in the transition to net-zero, with no equivalent to bus-focused programs like ZEBRA, and critical infrastructure gaps remain for long-distance travel.
“Coaches remain indispensable for connecting communities, reducing traffic congestion, and offering a sustainable alternative to private car usage. Zeelo urges UK policymakers and industry stakeholders to recognise the vital role of the coach sector and to work together to secure the funding and resources it needs. Investing in our local operators is not only about expanding transport services, it’s about building a more connected, sustainable, and prosperous future for our communities,” added Zeelo CEO and co-founder Sam Ryan.
