Ticketing technology provider Transmach has collaborated on the development of QR code functionality with Passenger and implemented the software within its own TM500 on-bus and TM920 handheld electronic ticket machines (ETMs). Since scanning a QR code on mobile app tickets makes it possible for the driver to know whether a ticket is valid or not, the QR schema developed by Transmach and Passenger provides the necessary instructions for how ETM providers should validate app tickets.

Director at TransMach Minesh Vandra explained: “We’re delighted to be working with Passenger to offer this new integration to our shared customers. By collaborating we’re able to solve some of the bigger industry challenges we face collectively. We look forward to rolling out the solution for customers.”

Passenger is now able to provide the QR schema to any ETM provider wishing to offer a QR scanning capability to operators. Dan Claydon, Product Manager at Passenger, added: “We’re excited about this integration for our myTrip app customers with TransMach electronic ticket machines on their buses.”
