Paul Lynch, Managing Director of Stagecoach London, has been appointed the inaugural Vice-President at the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT). The new role of Vice-President will support and shadow the CPT President before taking up the presidency in January.
Paul has a wealth of experience in the transport sector, having started his career with Transport for London in 1984. Since joining Stagecoach in 1994, he has held a number of Director roles including as Operations Director for Swebus in Sweden, managing director roles in Yorkshire and the East Midlands, as well as Regional Director positions for Wales and the North of England.
CPT Chief Executive Graham Vidler said: “I’m delighted that Paul has agreed to be our President for 2024. His extensive experience in the transport industry will be a real asset to CPT, further helping demonstrate why bus and coach is the answer to many of the UK’s environmental and socio-economic issues. I’m looking forward to working alongside him.”
During his time at Stagecoach, Paul has steered the business through the challenging pandemic period, and has led the introduction of electric vehicles at scale, operating the firm’s largest fleet of electric buses in London. Earlier in his career, he led the integration of a newly acquired company into the business, turning around the commercial and operational performance there, was a key figure in ground-breaking partnerships in a number of areas, and has successfully run scheduled coach and local bus services in both commercial and regulated markets. Commenting on his appointment, Paul said: “I’m delighted to be President for 2024. I look forward to helping members get the very best out of their membership. CPT is the leading trade association for the bus and coach sector, providing specialist political operational and policy advice to members when they need it most. I look forward to being involved with this work throughout my time in the role.”
Outgoing CPT President Ralph Roberts added: “I’m looking forward to working with Paul for the remainder of the year continuing the great work CPT carries out for its members. I’ve relished the opportunity to be CPT President, getting to know members across the country and supporting them in their vital contribution in keeping local communities connected.”
Paul will begin his role as Vice-President on 6 November and will become CPT’s new President in January. His inaugural speaking engagement in the role will be at CPT’s Annual Conference and Dinner on the 18 January, held at the Park Plaza London Riverbank.
