Rotherham-based Powells Bus Company, part of the HCT Group, has won seven new contracts in South Yorkshire.

From 2 September, Powells began operating six bus routes in the Sheffield area. The routes will be operated on behalf of South Yorkshire Passengers Transport Executive (SYPTE) following a competitive tendering process. The contracts will run for three years and have provided eight new full-time driver positions at the Rotherham depot.

Routes gained are the 5, 10, 10A, 61, 62 and the 201. Powells has also been granted a new three year contract for route A1 that operates from Rotherham to Sheffield.

To operate these new routes, Powells has upgraded its fleet with nine single-deck buses, complying with the Euro V emissions standard to help deliver improved air quality in Sheffield City Region.
