As Area Performance Manager at Go-Ahead London’s Stockwell garage he has significantly improved his employer’s service reliability, enabling it to move up London Buses’ performance league tables. When Sajid ‘Ziggy’ Chaudry joined Go-Ahead London as Area Performance Manager two and a half years ago, the business was largely dependent on Transport for London subsidiary London Buses for all its Quality Incentive Contract performance data (see panel). Although that’s reported in real-time to London Buses through iBus, by the time it’s disseminated to contractors, it can be 48 hours out of date.
By introducing the right systems and making best use of IT, even employing WhatsApp group communication where appropriate, Ziggy has transformed that situation by giving his employer the capacity to comprehensively monitor and record its own performance in real-time. That enables it to quickly respond to what are constantly changing operating conditions and deliver a more reliable service.
“I have a team of highly motivated people working for me,” said Ziggy. “I have a team of managers who are all Ziggys because we know we have to be proactive all the time to enable the rest of the business to be the same.” […]
