Jonathan Welch visited the Beverley depot of East Yorkshire operator Acklams Coaches to find out about the diverse range of services the operator provides

Acklams Coaches has a history which dates back to 1952 when it started out as Alpha Taxis. It has grown significantly since then, and continues to grow, having recently increased the number of operator discs it holds. “We started with taxis,” explained current Managing Director Paul Acklam, “then as contracts grew we needed more seats and bigger vehicles. I’d been to college and done motor vehicle engineering, but I obtained my operator’s CPC and got an O-licence. It was a restricted one at first, we started with a 12-seat minibus. We just kept expanding from there, and now have 65 vehicles and almost 100 employees.”
