UK bus operators currently have a choice of several electric vehicle suppliers, but there could soon be another contender for the most popular supplier crown in the form of RAC Electric Vehicles. Richard Sharman looks into what the Taiwanese company could offer the UK market

The coach and bus industry is just years away from abandoning internal combustion engines (ICEs) and moving fully to zero-emission technology in the form of hydrogen or electric vehicles. RAC Electric Vehicles is a specialist manufacturer of the latter and has its sights set on not just conquering its home market in Taiwan, but also spreading its expertise globally.

Speed, change and innovation

Since the establishment of RAC in 2008, its mandate has been the creation of ‘infinite possibilities’ through the green energy movement. It believes that pure electric full-sized buses are the best way to achieve this ideal, starting from the most fundamental aspect of ‘movement,’ with the aim that people can travel back and forth with zero carbon emissions. By changing the way people travel, the company believes that the results of better environmental protection and energy conservation will be given back to nature and society in the form of green hills, clear skies, and clean water.

In addition to its commitment to the green energy industry, RAC hopes to integrate Taiwan’s electric vehicle-related component suppliers into a powerful industrial complex through a vehicle manufacturing platform. The industrial ecosystem has pushed Taiwan’s electric vehicle self-manufacture rate to over 60%, which RAC says gives ‘Made in Taiwan’ electric vehicles a competitive advantage in the global electric vehicle manufacturing field and creates another industrial highlight for the country.

Starting strong

RACs main business, as an accredited vehicle manufacturer in Taiwan, is the development and manufacture of electric commercial vehicles. Since 2008, it has been creating and developing environmentally friendly vehicles that meet the Taiwanese government’s energy-efficient and carbon footprint reduction initiatives and which will play an active role in exploring what the manufacturer calls the infinite possibilities of the green energy movement.
