Reading Buses has praised its transport industry sponsors and others who helped to make its latest Open Day a record-breaking success.
Held at the company’s Great Knollys Street depot, the event was well supported by a number of sponsors – Wrightbus, Alexander Dennis Ltd and Ticketer – who all contributed financially to helping with the running costs.
A New Routemaster was loaned by Transport for London and Stagecoach, while First lent a traditional open top Routemaster.
More than £6,000 has been raised for Reading Buses Charity of the Year Alzheimer’s Society, far beyond the previous year’s total of £4,400 which was the most money raised from the event.
Martijn Gilbert, Reading Buses CEO, said: “Obviously, we would like to thank our sponsors who have helped to mitigate a large amount of the costs for running an event such as this, meaning more of the money taken on the day can go to our charity of the year.
“The Open Day has been a great way to reach out to the communities we serve and raise the profile and positivity of bus travel.
“It was a fantastic day all round and it makes it even better to hear that this has been the highest fundraising Open Day yet.
“It’s great that we have raised such a fantastic amount of money for our Charity of the Year, Alzheimer’s Society.”
