Reading Buses is taking over the Bracknell/Windsor – London Green Line 702 after First withdraws the service on Saturday, December 23.
The operator said the timetable and fares will be broadly similar to those operated by First and more details will be posted as soon as they are finalised. The operator is also holding a special running day on Christmas Eve.
Reading Buses CEO, Martijn Gilbert, said: “As the first day will be a Christmas Eve Sunday, there will likely be few usual fare paying customers around. Therefore we are planning to operate a special ‘free of charge’ service with a variety of vintage Green Line vehicles from volunteer/preservationist owners and organisations.
“While the service will operate free of charge (our formal route registration won’t commence until Wednesday December 27) donations to Reading Buses Charity of the Year, Red Balloon Learner Centres, will of course be welcomed. The timetable for this event is currently being finalised but journeys are expected to operate hourly from Victoria between 0900 and 1500hrs and from Windsor between 0930 and 1530hrs, with a separate shuttle service between Windsor and Bracknell.”
Martijn encouraged any Green Line vehicle owners to get in touch with him if they would like to run during the event. He said the company would make a donation to vehicle owners/operators to cover fuel expenses.
