Two new buses recently entered service in London. MAXSON GOH

Maxson Goh takes a look at two of London’s newest buses

Since my last visit to London in summer 2024, the capital’s bus network has welcomed two new additions to its fleet. Seeing that I was going to be in the city for the 2025 CPT Conference, I decided to take a look. Both these buses, the Irizar ie tram and BYD BD11, entered service in late 2024 and are fully electric, as per a Transport for London (TfL) announcement in 2021 that all new buses entering service from then on will be zero-emission.

Let’s start with the ie tram, and the elephant in the room. It’s not really a tram is it… it’s a bus with aspirations to be a tram. This isn’t new, with the likes of the Wright Streetcar and the Van Hool ExquiCity coming before it.
