The vehicles both belonged to the late Steve Meredith, who had a passion for municipal buses and had invested a huge amount of time, money and energy in the two buses.

RFA406J, which has Northern Counties bodywork, was new to Burton in 1971 and NFA12M has Willowbrook bodywork and entered service in August 1973. Both are unique survivors from their batches. Burton Corporation became East Staffordshire in 1974 and later merged with Stevenson’s.

NFA12M, currently in storage in Staffordshire, is of particular interest as its bodywork was largely to Nottingham specification. RFA406J was deroofed while in service with a Cornish operator (not that featured in the photos) and Steve had the vehicle re-roofed using parts from a former Maidstone Corporation Leyland Atlantean. This vehicle is currently understood to be undergoing work with a Worcestershire-based specialist.

Charlotte Mandy, of London-based solicitors TWM, which is handling Steve Meredith’s estate said: “We would very much appreciate anyone interested in these vehicles getting in touch. We believe they will be of interest to operators or individuals.”

The vehicles have yet to be valued. Interested parties are invited to contact Charlotte on 0208 879 5278 or by email at [email protected]
