GERMANY The height of four Solaris Urbino 10.9 LEs recently delivered to the German city of Karlsruhe is just 2.72m, 33cm less than normal and the lowest yet produced by the Polish manufacturer. The special build for Karlsruhe City Transport was necessitated by a viaduct that connects Beiertheim and Bulach district.

Despite the overall height adjustment, the interior standing height has been increased to 2.29m which is 4.5cm more than in a normal Urbino. This has been achieved through the relocation of most parts of the Spheros air-conditioning unit from the roof to the back of the bus where the rear window has been deleted. The buses are powered by Cummins ISB6.7E6 280B six-cylinder engines and another four built to the same specification are due for delivery before the end of the year.
