Polish electric buses find favour with three Scandinavian operators
Five Urbino 12 electrics are expected to be added to the fleet of Boreal Norge AS in July 2018. The 12-metre buses will be fitted with a ZF AVE130 electrically driven portal axles, integrated electric motors and Medcom drive systems as well as 146kWh Solaris high power batteries. Charging will be via a plug-in system, although the buses will additionally be equipped with roof-mounted pantographs that will facilitate fast charging en-route. They will operate on services 10 and 13 in Kristiansand in the south of Norway.
“It is a great pleasure for us, that we won this contract after a hard and long decision – making period,” said Sverre Skaar, Managing Director of Solaris Norge.
“We are also thrilled that we managed to get this contract with Boreal Norge which plays an important role in Norwegian bus-business.”
Polish manufacturer Solaris has been present in Norway since 2006 and there are now 483 of its buses in service. Two Urbino 12 electrics will be delivered to Unibuss in Oslo later this year with a further pair going to the capital city’s other operator, Norgebuss at the same time.
