Solent Go is a new smart travelcard launched by Solent Transport that offers almost unlimited bus travel across south Hampshire for the first time

Marking its introduction are a series of activities, the Solent Go Change Challenge, which were launched at the Bargate Monument in Southampton before embarking on a region wide tour running until October 2014.

Solent Go replaces the existing Solent Travelcard. It costs £8 per day, £30 a week and £100 per month. A selection of ferry tickets can also be added and lower cost city-based travelcards will be available from October 2014. Participating operators are Go South Coast, Stagecoach South, First Hampshire & Dorset, Brijan, Velvet, Emsworth & District, Xelabus and Wheelers.

Solent Transport, a partnership between Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth and Southampton City Councils, and Isle of Wight Council, is working with popular local attractions to offer discount and two for one entry to card users. Sea-City, the Museum of Navel Firepower and Gilbert White’s House are amongst those participating.

Announcing Solent Go, Thomas King from Solent Transport said: “The new travelcard is great news for everyone in the south Hampshire region. We are confident that those who already use public transport will find their journeys quicker, and easier with the smartcard technology. I also hope it will encourage those who have yet to try out the great public transport options in the area will find a much improved and sustainable option for commuters and visitors alike.”
