Go-Ahead Group-owned Southern Vectis has unveiled the first of its seven new buses for the island. The operator has invested £1.7m in the new Alexander Dennis Enviro400s, which it plans to use on its route 1 between Newport and Cowes. The delivery follows that of similar
buses to fellow Go South Coast company morebus.
“We are incredibly proud of these new double decker buses, and this is good news for both commuters and leisure passengers across the Isle of Wight,” said Southern Vectis Managing Director Andrew Wickham. “It is vitally important to us that we make sustainable transport a more attractive proposition, in order to entice people out of their cars, and this investment is a huge step in that direction.
“Reducing congestion and helping to improve air quality is a responsibility we all share, and we’re delighted to report that each of these new double decker buses carries a Euro VI engine – cleaner than the latest generation of diesel cars.”
The buses feature USB charging points for smartphones and hand-held devices, and contactless ticketing facilities. “I’m very much looking forward to seeing these new vehicles out and about, and welcoming even more people on-board – whether they’re travelling with us for work or play,” added Andrew.
