Southern Vectis General Manager Richard Tyldsley has praised his team following the success of the company’s Isle of Wight Festival shuttle bus service. In addition to colleagues from Southern Vectis, Richard welcomed an army of additional drivers from across the island and from sister companies on the UK mainland.

“This year’s operation was a huge success, with thousands of festival goers transported to-and-from Seaclose Park in Newport,” said Richard. “And we were boosted by a further 55 drivers, who joined our team over the course of the event. Our temporary colleagues were from all walks of life. Some were already within our industry but others, with PCV licences, had different jobs or were retired and wanted to come and join us for the event.

“We gave them training, in advance of the festival, on the routes they would be driving, and those arriving from the mainland stayed at Park Dean Holiday Park in Shanklin. The atmosphere among everyone involved was superb and, working in shifts, we were able to provide an almost 24-hour service.
“Working with local businesses like Park Dean and Graces Bakery, we were able to provide them with a comfortable place to stay and hefty packed lunches to keep them going throughout their shifts.”

Driver Jeff Clayton was one of those who helped out. He added: “It was a pleasure to be part of a driving team for a few days at Southern Vectis. The staff there clearly pulled together to provide all the resources that made the festival operation run smoothly for everyone. I’d like to thank the company for having me on-board, and for its hospitality throughout.”

Depot engineer turned driver for the event Julian Rose commented: “I really enjoyed working from the other side of the fence! As usual, a slick, well-organised operation. My congratulations and appreciation to all the rest of the team for putting the event together.”

Richard concluded: “I’d like to thank all the drivers – and the support team – who made this year’s Isle of Wight Festival service such a success. Anyone with a PCV licence and who wishes to be part of our festival team in 2025 can register their interest with us now by visiting our website.”
