Stagecoach East Scotland has unveiled an eight-strong fleet of Plaxton Elitei-bodied Volvos for its high-profile Coastrider X7 route. They’re the first built to 13.5m with 62-seat and a wheelchair space.
The company announced the investment of over £2.4m in a fleet of eight brand new luxury coaches, which will begin operating on Monday (November 24). The new coaches are replacing Plaxton Elites.
The route currently operates along the coast between Aberdeen and Dundee, serving Stonehaven, Montrose and Arbroath and runs hourly every day.
The new coaches, which have more seats, will be introduced to the route later this month and will offer additional capacity as well as a range of modern features.
Andrew Jarvis, Managing Director, Stagecoach East Scotland said: “Our new vehicles are the latest in luxury coach travel and feature leather reclining seats, air-conditioning, free WiFi, on-board charge points, an on-board toilet and bike racks with space for five bikes.”
The new Plaxton Elitei coaches have dedicated bike racks within the luggage hold area, allowing five bikes to be safely secured during the journey.
Stagecoach also plans to extend the popular route into Perth from the same date which will serve three hospital sites as well as provide additional stopping points in Dundee.
Speaking about the revised route, Andrew continued: “The Coastrider X7 has been very popular since its launch in 2011 and we’ve added extra journeys as the route has grown over the years. The extension of the route will provide great new links for so many people travelling to college and university, city centres, hospitals sites and will of course continue to provide relaxing journeys along our beautiful coastline.”
Stagecoach has held numerous launches to showcase the new vehicles and provided route information to the communities the route will serve.
