On Monday, October 15, Stagecoach launched a number of changes to its X7 route, which runs hourly from Leicester to Northampton via Market Harborough and Brixworth.
Stagecoach has invested £800,000 in the X7 route, with six new lowfloor Enviro 200s.
The route was extended to run to Milton Keynes, providing a new link from Leicester, Market Harborough, Brixworth and Kingsthorpe direct to Milton Keynes. The extension also means there is a new half hourly service from Northampton and Grange Park to Milton Keynes in conjunction with the Stagecoach Gold route X4.
The number of buses running between Brixworth and Northampton has been doubled from hourly to approximately half hourly frequency.
The improvements also mean the last bus back to Brixworth moves from 18:35 to 21:03 giving people the opportunity to stay at work later or attend after school/ college activities and still catch the bus home.
Steve Burd, MD of Stagecoach Midlands, said: “This is a big boost and a huge investment; we are further developing our network and providing many people with a significantly improved service.
“We are particularly excited by the new link from Leicester to Milton Keynes allowing people to make the journey without needing to change buses in Northampton bus station as in the past.”
Cllr Andre Gonzalez De Savage said: “Choice and convenience is greatly improved with the superb investment by Stagecoach – a very welcomed increase in frequency, together with greener and more accessible buses connecting our communities. A further great example of partnership between Stagecoach and the council.”
Route 89 was also revised with buses no longer running between Northampton and Weston Favell as service 8/89. However route 8 will remain unaffected running a half hourly service between Weston Favell and Northampton with an hourly extension towards, Towcester, Silverstone, Brackley and Bicester.
