Stagecoach is planning to close the Cowdenbeath depot operated under the Rennies name in July

The Stagecoach-owned Rennies depot in Cowdenbeath has been proposed for closure, affecting around 60 of the company’s staff. Stagecoach East Scotland said in a statement that financial pressure on the business was the reason for the move. The company’s website redirects to a page on the Stagecoach website, with bookings no longer being taken.

The company said in a statement: “We’re proposing the closure of our Rennies depot in July 2025. This difficult decision reflects the financial challenges facing the depot, despite our best efforts.

“Our priority now is supporting our affected colleagues, providing as many options for them as we can. The school services run by Rennies will run as normal, with no impact as a result of the proposed closure.

“We’re no longer taking private hires/bookings. We’re reviewing our current private hire bookings and will be in touch with you directly in due course if you are affected. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
Operated as part of the Stagecoach East Scotland division, Rennies, based at the former Fife Scottish depot in Cowdenbeath, has been a regular provider of vehicles for the megabus and Citylink network alongside its private hire and schools work. The business was established in 1947 as a family owned company, but was sold to Stagecoach following the retirement of Jack Rennie in 2008.

Rennies operates a fleet of coaches on private hire work and buses on schools contracts. RICHARD WALTER
