Stagecoach is set to take over operations of Guernsey’s buses.gg bus service from the start of April. In preparation, the island’s Traffic & Road Services department has leased an additional pair of Optare Solos from Stagecoach, which it says are to ensure its fleet is at full strength ready for the start of services.
”Seeing as this is only a temporary arrangement, the two buses will keep their Stagecoach branding, but our other buses will remain branded as buses.gg,” the department said. The buses.gg brand will remain after Stagecoach takes over the running of the service from Tower Transit.
In the longer-term, the department says funding has been approved for the next phase of the island’s bus fleet rolling replacement programme, which will permit it to order six new vehicles. Four of the buses will be diesel and two will be electric, as part of a plan to evaluate electric buses’ sutability for use on the island. Once delivered, they will replace smaller mini-buses and the two leased vehicles from Stagecoach.
It is expected that the two leased vehicles will be re-registered with local registrations before they are placed in service.
