Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire’s X8 service which launched in September last year has already ferried over 130,000 passengers between Liverpool and Chester’s major leisure and shopping hubs.

The X8 service covers a new route linking some of the region’s biggest shopping and employment hubs including Cheshire Oaks and Liverpool ONE.

The route allows passengers to travel between the two cities in little over one hour and runs seven days a week, every 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday, and every hour on Sundays and bank holidays.

Elisabeth Tasker, Managing Director at Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire, said: “When we launched the X8 service in September last year, we knew it would have an important role to play in connecting communities in Chester and Liverpool and enabling them to reach key retail destinations. It’s great to see people responding so positively to this new travel option, which is comparable to doing the journey by car but much more convenient and sustainable.

“We devised this new route to provide people with a new way of reaching some key shopping and leisure destinations and by offering a green, efficient and affordable means of travel, we are increasing visitor numbers to these centres – boosting footfall and revenue.

“We’re now welcoming on average over 21,000 people per month on this service.”
